| VISITING THE AREA Situated in the south coast of England, Abbotsbury and it's neighbouring district of over 400 square miles is almost entirely designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and the coastline is a Natural World Heritage site. Named the Jurassic Coast, for it is made up entirely of rocks formed during the Jurassic Period - around 190 million years ago, here you can hunt for fossils which are frequently uncovered here. The beaches around Charmouth and Lyme Regis are the best places to hunt for fossils especially in the winter months. 
Abbotsbury is surrounded by miles of open countryside and green hills, along with over 150 villages and the towns of Dorchester, Bridport, Lyme Regis, all with fascinating historical tales to tell, to be explored by foot, on horseback or by car. You can take advantage of the many beautiful picnic spots and spectacular viewpoints. West Dorset is almost entirely designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty covering over 400 square miles. It ranges from Sherborne to the north, Lyme Regis to the west and nearby Dorchester and Weymouth to the east with superb coast and countryside. |
Here you will find woodlands strewn with bluebells and all kinds of flora throughout the year. Such a varied landscape means it’s rich in wildlife too, providing a haven for rabbits, hares, foxes, deer, squirrels and much more. On Golden Cap and Powerstock Common Nature Reserve you will find an excellent variety of butterflies.
